Holidays in Spain

Spanish people regularly go in for sport. It is an inseparable part of their daily life. It is interesting that every region of the country is characterized by its own favorite sport. In Catalonia winter sports are wide spread. As for Valencia coast - windsurfing, scuba-diving, and surfing are rather popular. In the Basque provinces there exists a kind of racquetball, which is called jai alai.

The corrida de toros (bullfighting) is a national sport. It is rather beautiful choreographed ballet than a sporting event. The season of bullfights starts in March and lasts till October. Traditionally the bullfights occur on Sunday afternoons. The shows are held in major cities and in almost every town during local festivals. Football was introduced into Spain by the British at the end of the 19th century and till nowadays remains popular thought the country. One of the largest indoor ski resorts in Europe – Xanadu.
