Spain is located on the south-west of Europe, occupying nearly 85% of the Iberian Peninsula. In the north the country has a specific natural frontier - the Pyrenees – the principal Spanish mountain range, the highest peak is Pico de Aneto. The Pyrenees separate the country from France. Other neighbors of Spain are Andorra, Portugal, and Morocco. 17 administrative regions comprise the country, 15 of them are on mainland Spain. The provinces of the country are the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa. On the Moroccan mainland there are Ceuta and Melilla which are also under Spanish control. The capital of the country is Madrid.
Spain is washed by North Sea in the south-west, the Mediterranean Sea (south-east), and the Bay of Biscay in the north. The country has access to the Atlantic Ocean. As for the principal rivers, they are the Guadalquivir in the south, the Tajo in the central part of the country, and the Ebro in the northeast. The landscapes of Spain are extremely varied. The forests (evergreen oak) are preferably located in the northwest, on mountain slopes. The coastlines stretch along Mediterranean Sea in the east, along the Atlantic Ocean and Cantabrian Sea. The climate of Spain is rather temperate: the summers are hot and clear, the winters are cold, but much milder on the coast.
